In 1993, Maxis acquired a license to provide mobile coverage in Malaysia, subsequently rolling out its first commercial operations in August 1995. Since its inception, Maxis has continued to adapt to new technologies to improve its existing infrastructures. In 2005, the wireless company rolled out Maxis3G, a trademark that represented the newly launched 3G infrastructures in the country.
In September 2006, Maxis became the country's first mobile network to roll-out HSDPA, an upgraded 3G platform that supports much faster data transfer speeds for seamless mobile internet access and multimedia streaming. Maxis was also the first in bringing BlackBerry and iPhone to the local mobile market.
Because of the network's high-quality and expansive coverage, Maxis has acquired multiple awards over the years. In 2008, the cellular provider was recognized by Frost & Sullivan as the Service Provider of the Year (Malaysia); and in 2009, the company was the recipient of Asia Pacific Super Excellent Brand Award by Asia Pacific International Brands Summit Malaysia. Such prestigious awards, among many others, mark the wireless network's efforts in providing only the best telecommunications services across the country.
